About Susan and Creations in Glass by Susan
I have been married to my husband Tom for more than 25 years. We have three children and five grandchildren. I am an engineer by profession, graduating from The University of Texas in Austin in 1992.
Glass became my passion in 2015 when I saw my first flattened wine bottle cheese tray. I began researching how to melt wine bottles to create cheese trays, which lead me to a beginner's class in glass fusing. That class was all it took, I was hooked. Since then, I have scoured the internet, Facebook groups and books for new and challenging ways to create pieces of art that are both beautiful and useful in glass. These creations are handmade one-of-a-kind pieces, each one unique.
My first passion is fused glass, but I also enjoy creating pieces in stained glass and recycled bottles. The fused glass and recycled bottle pieces are created in a kiln in multiple firings up to 1500 deg. F. The stained-glass pieces are created using the Tiffany method where each piece is hand cut and foiled then solder together.
